The Capability Manager (in short, Capman) portlet works in two different modes for two distinct sets of its users.
The first set is the service providers, whose manage their capabilities through the "Provider Mode". In "Provider Mode", the service providers can register, renew, update and remove their own capabilities. They can also process the requests issued by the service users.
The other mode is the "User Mode" which provides functionality for the service users to manage the capabilities assigned to them by the providers. If the capability is not available for a specific service instance, the user can make a request concerning the existing capability
In the portal, the service providers provide the capabilities for various
service instances through the Capman's registering function.
The service providers may somehow would like to change the registered capabilities. Strictly speaking, the issued capabilities are not allowed to be modified. Therefore, Capman actually creates new capabilities according to the new properties and replaces the old one with the new one.
Through this function, both the service providers and the users can read the
underlying XML text of the capability. The capability tokens can also be
downloaded as a "cap" type file, when the "Download" button is clicked. Only the
capability owner and its users can invoke the function, though the capability
tokens are safe with the protection of digital signature.
The service users can browse the capabilities assigned to them.
